Easy Upgrades to Builder Grade or Dated Spaces - The Kitchen pt 3
The kitchen is the heart of the home and when it needs some love, we’ve got to deliver. Here are a few more ideas on ways to upgrade a kitchen. One idea I’ll share is not a cheap one, but is worth the investment.
Appliances
This is a more costly undertaking because appliances aren’t inexpensive. My recommendation is to look for sales during holiday weekends, off-season, near the end of the month and sometimes just before or after a manufacturer comes out with a new model. You might also be able to get appliances for a great discount if there’s a slight “ding” on the side (where it might not be seen), or after a return. Look for sales and ask local stores if they have packages if you intend on buying more than one appliance.
I’m also a fan of sticking with one line. GE is a brand that has a good reputation and comes in a higher end option (profile) as well as a more basic line. I’ve made the investment of a SubZero refrigerator, Bosch dishwasher, etc. and perhaps for that home, it was necessary especially when we sold our home post separation. Today, I’m more pragmatic and would opt for a good line, but not top shelf due to cost as well as functionality.
Fixtures
Updating the fixtures in a kitchen goes a long way in upleveling the look. From cabinet handles and pulls, to faucets, task lighting and even range hoods can make or break the look of a kitchen. They’re the jewelry of the room and it matters what you put on and in them.
I like mixing two metals. Sometimes you can do it brilliantly with three metals, but if you’re not sure, stick to two. Some combinations I’m loving now are champagne bronze and black or oil rubbed bronze. I like polished nickel with black and oil rubbed bronze as well.
I’m loving the look and price tag of this faucet.
KRAUS Britt Commercial Style Kitchen Faucet
I love the classic looks of these cabinet pulls as well..
Option 1
Option 2
Love this light for over a sink or as pendants over an island.
This chandelier mixes metals well and has a mid century modern vibe to it, yet it’s still a classic.
Hope this inspires you to think about some easy and maybe not-so-easy upgrades you can make to your kitchen. Show it some love!
