Decorating a Bar Cabinet

As you can well imagine, I’m so ready to get work on the decorating part of my new home and wrapping up this ongoing kitchen renovation.

One thing that makes me smile every time I go by it is my bar cabinet in an alcove on my way to what will be my office. Someday.

For now though, I feel like it’s another thing accomplished.

The bar cabinet itself was a find on . . . you guessed it, Facebook Marketplace! It came from a French store that was on Newbury Street in Boston and the seller needed it out of her home immediately and sold it for a song. I actually spent more on zhuzhing it than I did on the bar itself.

Here are some of the key ingredients you might want to consider when decorating your bar cart or cabinet.

  • Liquor, of course

  • Vintage liquor bottles with tags (purchased at a thrift store)

  • Artwork (one from Homegoods that was the image for a frame, the other at Salvation Army thrift store)

  • Homegood finds like candle sticks, remote control flickering candles, brass turtle, marble and wood cutting board (all from Homegoods)

  • Frames - when I find pictures, I’ll add them (Homegoods)

  • Turkish dish towels (Amazon)

  • Vintage glasses (Facebook Marketplace)

  • Straws (Walmart)

  • Ice bucket (Thrift store)

  • Cocktail picks (Amazon)

  • Diffuser (Homegoods)

  • Gold stirring spoons (Amazon)

Other items you could include might be:

  • Pitcher

  • Plants (faux or real)

  • Wine bucket (I’m eyeing one on Facebook Marketplace now, but I’m running out of room)

  • Tray(s)

  • Coasters

  • Bar tools

  • Mirrors

  • Mixology books or guides

  • Coffee table books (when space allows)

  • Lighting (I’d love to find a small lamp that I could have in the opposite corner as you enter my office

The list is endless.

The best places to find these items are at big box retailers like Target, Walmart and Homegoods as well as finding truly unique items at thrift stores, consignment shops and Facebook Marketplace or ebay.

Do you have a bar cabinet or cart? How are you decorating yours?
