Go Big… Then Go Smaller

I was working with clients this week and after discussing what the larger pieces of furniture might be for their new home, they were wondering if the smaller items should be looked at simultaneously. I get it. Once I’m on a roll in updating and decorating my own home, it’s the small things that really make a home a home.

For me, I  have really been noticing this as the major construction has wound down and the dust has literally settled – I’ve started to hang the artwork, mirrors, curtains, etc. that my home is feeling much more like a home. It’s the little things that seem to matter most. However, if you haven’t taken care of the big decisions and pieces in your home, it’s unlikely that hanging a few things, buying a few items for bookcases, toss pillows, vases, etc.  will bring you the joy you thought it would. The big pieces matter first. Here’s why.

The main pieces of a room are the items you’ll be walking on or sitting or eating on the most. Because we have to love those big ticket decisions. They matter.

The smaller items can be brought in to complete the overall look of your home and pull it all together.

Here are a few ways I’ve used the smaller things to make a home a home!
