Planning an Impromptu Gathering? Here’s a Recipe for Success . . .

A long-time college friend of mine suggested that I open my house up this weekend for a Regatta Race ending party on Sunday. I haven’t entertained, or had a party, ever here because I only got my kitchen installed very recently.

I pushed out a simple email to friends, colleagues and people I’ve recently met and was astounded at the response. I was thinking less than half would make it, but in reality it looks like I’ve got a 98% yes response. In attempting to think about how to accommodate this many people in a relatively small place I decided to turn to Costco to purchase almost everything I need to throw this party together.

Here’s my list with links.

Basics

Tableware

Silverware

I have plenty of plastic cups for drinks and picked up a pile of fall napkins at Dollar Tree!

Food

Costco has some great options to choose from and because my party is starting at 2pm and ending by 5pm, I wanted to have food on hand knowing that people will be drinking as well.

Menu

Kirkland roasted chicken and swiss sandwiches (2)

I’m on the fence about chili as a vegetarian option with all the fixings but it might get to be too much. Another option is to purchase the rotisserie chicken that’s off the bone at Costco and add some barbeque sauce, a little sriracha and Veggie platter https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco/products/276789, that I’ll add onto with mini-peppers https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco/products/18848200,

cucumbers https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco/products/18848191, celery sticks https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco/products/16461918, and a medley of grape tomatoes https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco/products/18848192

Charcuterie board that I’ll put together with the cured meats, nuts and olives (that I have), and some grapes

and naan dippers

Cheese board with cheeses I purchased at Trader Joe’s so we’d have a variety of cheeses, with crackers (also purchased from Trader Joe’s) and fruit, raspberries from Costco

Desserts

Baklava, just because . . . and chocolate chip cookies

Drinks

I’m a Sauvignon Blanc lover and would prefer white wine over red when entertaining, but I’m not militant about that. I will provide SB https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco/products/46424, a beer option https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco/products/3321993,

seltzers https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco/products/572430

and bottled water https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco/products/19232551

I suggested if someone had a special thing they liked to drink that they could certainly bring that as well.

And that my friends is how you do it . . . impromptu!
