Are you Going Coastal?

I’m visiting dear friends of mine in Scottsdale AZ and Jen is up on everything. She started talking to me about the Coastal Grandmother fashion trend that has of course crossed paths with interiors as well.

My daughter Chloe got me intrigued with TikTok at the beginning of the pandemic when she was living with me and I have to admit it’s a slippery slope and I probably spent too much time looking at videos.  Recently TikTok-er Lex Nicoleta popularized Grandmother Coastal Chic in design and fashion. Think Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give decor and clothing and you’ve been a witness to the coastal grandmother chic approach to design.

Honestly, I’m intrigued and think this is more of a way of life than a trend and you don’t need to own a beach house in order to follow the trend either. You can do it right in the home you’re in, wherever that might be.

Here are my favorite products that help create the Coastal Grandmother vibe in your home.

Blue & White

I’ve been a fan of blue and white china . . . forever. I had a lot of it in my former summer condo and the color combination is a classic one that will stand the test of time. I love this vase – it has a great patina and is super affordable!

Easy Care Linens

Cotton would be my preferred home fabric due to ease of care, but relaxed linen toss pillows offer a great look in warmer climates or seasons. I love this bedding option and it blends both fabric and classic ticking stripes in one!

Fresh Flowers & Fruit

Never go out of style and look great on tables, countertops, nightstands, shelves – wherever you want to infuse the feeling of “fresh” in your home.  Trader Joe’s has an affordable and extensive selection of flowers, plants and fruit. One stop shopping!

Wicker/Rattan, Straw and Caning

Wicker furniture is a classic coastal material that is used for seating, stools, bar carts and on and on. Rattan also provides a similar look to wicker and screams coastal chic! Here’s a chair I love that would be great as a pair or to use around a dining table.

This straw bag would look fabulous in your entryway and can do triple duty as an accessory, market bag and beach tote!

Straw is also popular to bring into your home in the way of hats and bags that look great in an entryway or mudroom, as well as being perfectly functional.

Caning is a favorite look of mine as well. I love the look of these boxes.

So there you have it, a coastal grandmother aesthetic you can wrap your arms around! I’d love to see what you’re using in your home to create this vibe.
