10 Steps to Foolproof Decorating - Step 4: Fixtures
Fixtures are the things that can add such visual interest in a home and shouldn't be overlooked. They’re what jewelry is to an outfit – the finishing touches to a beautiful room.
You know I’m a fan of mixing metals completely within the realm of possibility as this can can look much more interesting than a match-matchy look of only one metal. Faucets for bathrooms and kitchens, as well as shower heads can elevate the look of a home instantly.
Here are some examples of fixtures that I love.
Bathroom
If you’re going for a vintage and classic look, here’s my pick. I love the polished nickel as well.

Kitchen
I love this two metal tone combination faucet and it’s very reasonably priced as well.

Cabinet Pulls
I can’t decide if these are reflective of art deco style or have an Asian design and flare. I can see these on kitchen cabinets, but also on a bureau or built in. Finding knobs that would compliment these in tone would be a must.
These have a similar look to above. They’re different and you’re unlikely to find them anywhere else.
Cabinet Knobs
I love these – as they are keeping with the current aesthetic of my home with strong Asian influences.
This is current, but has an art deco feel to it as well.

Curtain rods
I went very basic on curtain rods for my Beacon Hill home due to the statement that the egg and dart molding makes. I didn’t want it to compete with it. Although these are more contemporary than the look and feel of my space, I like them because they’re unfussy and have a clean line.

Tension rods
I purchased the same design for a tension rod for my shower as well as my kitchen window valance I had custom made on Etsy.
Toilet paper holders
I purchased this at Anthropologie a couple of years ago and I’m sorry to say, I don’t think they sell this version any longer. When you’re tight on space, placing this on the back of my second bathroom did the trick. A toilet paper stand can work if you don’t want to put a toilet paper holder on your wall.
Towel rings
These are functional, but why not have them look great too. I got these at Anthropologie as well and love them. So convenient to have a towel in any size bathroom, but especially a tiny one like this one.
Light switch plate covers
I purchased a chandelier for my bedroom from Facebook Marketplace and when I went to pick it up, the person I was buying it from offered to give me these light switch covers. Thankfully, they fit and I used all of them. Then I did seek out complimentary covers for other switches that needed a for current electrical options.
